Harbour View Thai - Shellharbour Village

Shellharbour is one of my favourite spots in the Illawarra. Only an hour and a half from Sydney (100km) and half an hour south of Wollongong, it has a lovely seaside village feel with gourmet food and speciality shops certain to please.

It was my birthday and I was celebrating with friends and family. We decided to try out the new Thai restaurant that had opened across the road from the Ocean Beach Hotel and the harbour. I love the fresh flavours of thai food and when I saw that mussells were on the menu I just had to try them. And thankfully I wasn't disappointed!

Mussells Hotpot ($15.90) Tender, juicy mussels in a hotpot with basil, lemongrass, chill and sweet chilli sauce. Amazing! Mussels can often be overcooked and chewy or stringy but these just melted in the mouth and the juice was so good not a drop went to waste.

The next dish selected was Pad Kra Tium ($14.90) - Stir fried pork with garlic sauce, mushroom soy, dark soy and pepper. It was a very light meal for someone who had requested nothing too heavy and again was cooked to perfection. This is another favourite meal that will be purchased again.

Next was a meal for our curry lover, masaman curry (mild) with cubes of beef with potato, onion and peanut curry gravy. I had a taste of this meal and the flavours of peanut and a mild curry flavour were very pleasing. This is my favourite thai curry dish and great for diners who have trouble with the spicier curry meals.

Lovely fresh flavours of the mint, cucumber and live affording a cooling zesty feel to this dish. The seafood included mussells, squid, prawns, fish and scallops and was cooked to perfection. Another favourite dish that pleased my seafood loving family.

And a delicious Fried rice for everyone to share

The service at the Harbour View Thai was fantastic. Our waitress kindly allowed me to photograph her by the specials board. I love the vibrant colours of the decore and the view just can't be beat.

Windang Thai Gardens restaurant

Windang is a lovely little seaside and lakeside village on the border of the cities of Shellharbour and Wollongong. It is a popular destination with Sydneysiders who are attracted by the views and fishing spots. It is also the location of the Thai Gardens restaurant where we had a lovely lunch.

Entrees included:

Chicken Satay skewers - tender pieces of chicken on skewers with a peanut satay sauce
Crying Tiger - tender strips of beef with a delicious dipping sauce featuring lime juice, fish sauce and coriander.

Mains:
Lamb with yellow curry sauce ($15.90)

Homock Talay - Red curry Seafood with coconut milk and thai herbs ($16.90)

BBQ duck salad

I loved the colour scheme. It was a relaxing, calming venue with touches of Thailand adoring the walls including carved elephant heads, waterfalls, painting of a Thai village with boats travelling to market with fresh produce and other elements.

Deep fried soft-shell crab @ Baan Krua Thai Restaurant, Wollongong

It had been a while since we last visited Baan Krua Thai. On our last visit we sampled the amazing Deep-Fried Soft-Shell crab from Baan Krua Thai in Wollongong. It was so good that we decided to go back and order it again. I also ordered the garlic seafood stir-fry which was amazing. The quality of food and wonderful service makes Baan Krua a favourite for dining in Wollongong.

Crown Thai - Musman Curry

Musman Curry from Crown Thai, Wollongong

To celebrate the birth of my nephew my husband and I had lunch at Crown Thai.
We ordered our favourite - the Crying Tiger with glass of wine $9.50 and a musman curry with tender beef and potatoes ($8.50)

The beef was so tender it just melted in the mouth. The curry was flavoursome with potatoes and peanuts cooked to perfection. A wonderful lunchtime meal that leaves you feeling satisfied.

Crown Thai - Garlic seafood

Crown Thai - Garlic seafood, originally uploaded by vanessapr.

On the 4th of May I won a $500 gift card as part of i98 fm's Mothers Day competition. The gift card could be used at most stores in Wollongong Central and one of the names on the list was Crown Thai - something that made me immediately hungry! I had sampled the fantastic fare at Crown Thai but a few times and was anxious to have lunch there again.

On Wednesday I went in with Stan to do some grocery shopping and we enjoyed selecting a meal from the Crown Thai menu. They had set lunchtime specials which come with rice

Beef / Chicken / Pork - $8.50
Seafood $9.80

But we decided to choose a main meal since we were hungry. The serving sizes were more than ample. We ended up taking some home since we couldn't finish it all.
