Tandoori chicken salad from Emeralds

TANDOORI TENDERLOIN SALAD $12.90
Slices of Chicken Supreme Marinated in Tandoori Spices Tossed with Crisp
Mesculan Leaves, Drizzled with Garlic Aioli Sauce and Mango Chutney

I had spied this dish on the menu on my last visit and I was not disappointed. The tandoori marinade had lots of flavour, the chicken was moist and the salad fresh and full of flavour. A good choice if you are on a low-carb diet or want a meal which will leave some room for dessert.

BARRACK POINT BEEF $25.90
Prime Fillet Steak Topped with a King Prawn, Calamari,
Half Morton Bay Bug and Béarnaise Sauce

Every mouthful was full of flavour. The steak was cooked as a medium when medium rare was requested, although you didn't hear any murmur of dissatisfaction with the flavour or tenderness. The balmain bug was a bit on the small side but very tasty, as were the prawns and calimari. The bernaise sauce was heavenly. Definitely the meal to choose if you can't pick between steak and seafood.

Barkers Creek Pork King Rib Cutlet 300g $22.90

On Spring Onion Mash, Field Mushrooms and Red Wine Sauce

My friend Stan had wanted to dry this dish for a while and was full of praise at the first bite. I sampled a small portion and agreed - it was heavenly and definitely a meal to be experienced. The red wine sauce really complimented the juicy pork cutlet. The vegetables were fresh and well cooked. A new favourite. Bring your appetite!

Strawberry Cheesecake
An amazing dessert plate from Emeralds Restaurant. This quartet of taste sensations was shared between two people and was an amazing finish to the night's feasting.

Collegians Wollongong - $5 steaks on Wednesday, Veal and Seafood Torino

Collegians Wollongong - Wednesday $5 steak, chips and salad meal

$5.50 scotch fillet steak with chips and sald

You just can't beat the prices of Collegians Wollongong. Every day of the week they have a special lunch meal ranging from three to six dollars ($3-$6). Menu includes Chicken Schnitzel with chips and salad ($3), Sausages and vegetables ($3), Rissoles and vegetables ($3), Roast Chicken with vegetables ($3), Fried Fish (with chips and salad)($3) and on Wednesday it is Steak, Chips and Salad for $5.50. Bargain!

As I waited in line to buy two steaks (medium rare, as usual) I spied a new menu item - Veal and Seafood Torino and decided to try it. One thing I learned was that if you order two meals they will hold the steak in the bay marie until the other meal is cooked. Not a good idea. Next time I will order them on separate dockets. By the time the Veal and Seafood Torino was cooked the steak had been sitting for too long and was cold when it reached the table. Philip was not a happy chap.

Collegians Wollongong's Veal and Seafood Torino ($21.90).

The sauce was similar to a marinara and was nice, if a little heavy for my tastes. The dish was garnished with Australian feta and green olives. To be honest I much prefer Danish feta, especially marinated. It has a much better taste and creamy texture than the Australian variety. The olives were too bitter for my liking. I have only recently acquired the taste for olives, as recently as Australia Day when I sampled some marinated olives at Five Island Brewery as part of an antipasto platter.

Metro Grill, Keira Street Wollongong

As an early birthday celebration I invited my Sister for lunch at The Metro Grill in Keira Street, Wollongong. We had read about their 'buy one main get one free' deal on the Rewards Club website and thought it was a great excuse to try out this new restaurant on Keira Street Wollongong, Opposite the lovely Baan Krua Thai Restaurant.

The Metro Grill is offering $15 lunches which includes a glass of wine or soft drink.

I had the Rump Steak and paid an extra $5 for some seafood in garlic sauce - making it a 'Surf and Turf'.

Rump steak with garlic seafood (king prawns, mussells and scallops)
The steak was juicy and tender. It had a great flavour and the garlic sauce from the seafood really enhanced the meal. I haven't had scallops that fresh since returning from Tasmania in 2002. A wonderful meal at a great price. The servings size was more than generous. I found it difficult to finish all of my meal and left some of the salad.

My Sister chose the Chicken Parmigiana with salad and enjoyed her meal, also struggling to finish. It smelled amazing and I will definitely be trying it when I visit The Metro Grill again in the near future.

The staff were friendly and were able to accommodate my request for the seafood topping without notice - something I rate them highly for. The decor is simple and relaxing. It would be suitable for a candlelight dinner or to celebrate a birthday or event. If you register as a VIP member you may dine for free! It is a short walk from Wollongong City Mall or Collegians Rugby Football Club if you wanted to continue your night.

The Park restaurant

Located inside Wiseman Park Wollongong City Bowling Club is The Park restaurant. Being a local I really love it that a top class restaurant is so close by. Their chef is very friendly and will cater to those with low carb needs. I swear by his warm thai salad and the garlic prawns are amazing. Wanting to try something different we looked at the specials board.
